A Historical Note

The American expression Free Lunch (a much desired concept in most circles) first came into circulation in the 19th century, originally referred to a tradition widespread in saloons all over the USA. Saloons, strangely enough, indeed offered free lunches, and those ranged from basic to elaborate.
