Every time I visit Boston, this is the first place I head. The No Name Restaurant sits on the Fish Pier in the Boston Harbor. Established in 1917, it was a place for seafarers to get a hot meal after a long day on the high seas.

The food here is divine, so fresh you could swear they caught it off one side of the pier, slapped in on the fire and then raced it out to your table. Most of the offerings are broiled, sautéed or deep fried in a light batter. The offerings include lobster, mussels, clams, shrimp, scrod, scallops and swordfish along with seasonal fresh catch of the day.

The floors are a scuffed wood and captain’s chairs are snuggled up against the tables. The atmosphere is casual and you can plan on using your fingers. Tearing off a succulent piece of lobster, trailing it through a sea of butter and then popping it into your mouth is an experience no one should miss.

The wait staff is marvelous and most are long-time employees of the No Name Restaurant which has been owned consistently by the same family since World War I. Don’t let the informal façade fool you, this restaurant is regularly awarded the “Best Of” by all major reviewers and critics.
